Bibliographic Diagnostic and Repair Services
Library Dynamics passes all bibliographic records received through a
diagnostic and repair process designed to identify and in as many cases as can
safely be done correct coding and cataloging errors in our client MARC
databases.
The diagnostic process validates the client’s MARC records (and entire MARC
database) against the most current MARC21 standards. In addition the diagnostic
process includes hundreds of cataloging cross-checks to identify and log
problems that cannot be found simply via validation. Library Dynamics offers a
service which provides the client with a customizable report of all of the
cataloging and coding problems in the library’s file identified by the
diagnostic process and a copy of the database with those corrections which the
repair process is able to make algorithmically.
Optionally, Library Dynamics can provide the library with software that will
perform the same analysis in an interactive mode at the library’s site. The
software will examine the library’s MARC file and navigate through it one record
at a time - viewing the actual record in one window, and a list of errors and
links to complete descriptions of each error in another window.
The diagnostic and repair software also includes a MARC editor capable of
editing any record in a MARC file of any size, so that your library can not only
identify problems, but fix them immediately.
